Incredible campground in the Hiawatha National Forest.

Incredible campground in the Hiawatha National Forest.

Jack Pines Campground is one of the best campgrounds for off-roaders I have seen to-date. So great, in-fact, The campground is the inaugural, Best campground of the year… in the new category of articles.

The campground is located on Corridor 41 (Haywire Grade Trail) in Northern Schoolcraft County, In Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This is amongst the Hiawatha National Forest land, some distance from any community, the closest being Manistique, about a half-an-hour south of the campground.

Jack Pines Campground offers a campsite layout I absolutely love, The sites are spaced nicely, some have different angles so you’re looking at another rv. Very well thought out.

The campground is such a peaceful place, not much traffic on the highway, just a wonderful spot in the world!

The campsites are massive, as mentioned. Toward the rear of the campsites, you can see how much space. There are campsites beyond the trees though they are difficult to see due to the thick trees, which is nice.

There are even trees in between some of the sites, such was the case with my campsite. Overall I’m really impressed with the spaces and options. This campground is quite large & to see the different orintations of the sites & different layouts, just incredibly well setup.

Even if you have a large rv like me, You can maneuver, Seems to be a problem at the majority of campgrounds I stay at, not enough room to back into a spot, so I usually just opt for the more expensive pull-thru sites. Not here though, there is plenty of room to back into the site. I was grateful.

 Main Bar / Restaurant…

Main Bar / Restaurant…

A Bar & Restaurant on-site, full menu, great food. Separate building with seating outside of the noisy main bar area.

Also, There is an on-site campground store with most things you would need incase you forgot something, which is great due to the lack of stores in the area.

Fuel here is extremely expensive, just a head-up on this one. Very convenient if you are about to run out though.

Facilities here are great too, restrooms are beyond clean, there’s a dump station for those that don’t have full hook-ups too.

My campsite here was epic, There was a huge amount of room on either side of the camper with trees on either side between the next campsites, so when the trees are fuller, you wouldn’t be looking at another rv, just trees, beautiful.

Also, the wifi at this spot was off the charts, some of the fastest speeds I had ever seen at a campground.

There is a huge amount of room at the rear of the campsite as well, plenty of room to have a campfire & not disturb the neighboring rvs.

Can’t go out and play…

Jack Pines Campground is one beautiful place. There is no light pollution, so the nights here are epic. So many stars, You enjoy being outside by the fire just for the night sky, even though it can be freezing cold most of the year. Something I miss seeing the stars, I live near Milwaukee, nothing but light pollution.

Jack Pines Is my pick for “Campground Of The Year” Which is a new category of articles I started this year. The reason…

Jack Pines Campground was head-to-head with the Paint River Campground in Crystal Falls, Michigan, for this title this year. What put Jack Pines over the top was the maintenance. While here, management was out fixing various things and what caught my attention was the excavating (I’m a DPW employee) and “refreshing” of the driveways. There were essentially, re-coating the driveways with fresh material, not a cheap endeavour and it wasn’t like the driveways were bad or anything. Just keeping up on things, I love that kind of thinking.

Jack Pines Campground deserves the title I bestowed on it (for what it’s worth), Campground of the year. Only thing the campground is lacking is an ATV Wash Bay, obviously not a deal breaker at this near perfect campground facility on one of the best trail corridors that I have been on to-date.

I can’t say enough good about the campground, I wish everyone could experience this wonderful place.
