Crystal Falls, Michigan, In the Upper Peninsula was my base camp this time and I stayed right in town at the Paint River Hills Campground & It was a beautiful stay all around! Be sure to visit the blog for details about the campground.
Crystal Falls is open to OHVers and the trails in the area are fantastic. This area is nice because you have so many options, State Line Trail runs through this area is a wonderful ride any time of year.

ICR – Iron County Route 16…
It is interesting, you are starting to see a divide, amongst the different trails in a given area. There is a clear hierarchy in areas where there are many trails. You can see this in most areas now and it’s no different in Iron County. There is State Line Trail, Corridor 2, and there is the Iron County Route 16 (ICR) which is what I’m covering in this article.
ICR 16 is an alternative East -West route north of State Line Trail and as much as i love State Line Trail, I love ICR 16 even more!

Within the city limits…

Driving within The City Of Crystal Falls is a bit confusing, signs are scattered and hard to follow sometimes as the route has changed within the city limits due to the opening of the Paint River Hills Campground.
Just keep your eye peeled for signs!

Sometimes hard to see the signs telling you about the routes within the city.
ICR 16 – Details…

ICR 16, as mentioned, is a secondary / alternative east-west trail to the busier State Line Trail (Corridor 2) on the southside of Iron County and links Crystal Falls With Iron River, MI To The West. It’s kind of a shortcut to Iron River.

ICR 16 was maintained exceptionally well when I was there. This is not always the case on county routes in the Upper Penisula.

ICR 16 passes through some very heavily wooded areas with lots of lakes, the trail is very narrow and this is a two-way route, so keep that in mind.
Also, because of the lakes and swampy areas bugs and mosquitoes are insane at times, be prepared to wipe your goggles or windshield many times!
With that said, the trail is a beaut and highly recommended for traveling west from Crystal Falls over Corridor 2.
