Trail F2 Through Northern Florence County…
This is the first time I have stayed in and the first time riding the trails of Florence County and I just have to say, I’m impressed, all around excellent experience, so much so that, I have made this my top Wisconsin Destination!
Florence County is located right on State Line Trail (Trail F2 – Eastbound and Westbound) Which in of itself is huge, because of the amount of riding opportunities that Trail F2 offers, however, that’s not the best part or the best trail in the County.
The County has some of the best trails (for terrain & trail quality) that I have come across in Wisconsin. In Fact, Florence County is home to one of my all-time favorite trails in the State, Florence Trail F15, I’ll talk more about this trail later in this article and in a separate article.
Florence Trails and the Blue Ox Trail Club are truly an epic destination, OK, let’s dive into what makes this area so special…

I camped at Camping In The Clouds (Campground), just west of the City of Florence and I had been trying to get into this campground for some time but I finally found a spot, I will have a separate review / article about this campground. The campground has direct access to the Florence County Trail System.
I did have some comments about this campground that I will discuss in the seperate article.
The Trails…

City of Florence trail access via alleyways…

Before I headed south, I stopped right away, for breakfast at Barb’s Cafe (Highly Recommended) in Florence and ate a wonderful meal before heading out for the day on the trails…

Florence County F2

The Florence County Trail System is expansive and offers some of the most varied terrain available in Wisconsin. The County is very ohv friendly and you have amazing access to attractions and communities along the trails. Although, there is not much in Florence County, the majority of the county is rural or forested, just keep that in mind when planning destinations in the county, I ended up going south on the western trail out of Florence down toward The Town of Dunbar, which is in Marinette county for fuel.

Great access to fuel and Downtown Florence. Along Florence Trail F2.

Florence County F2, I consider to be the main North-South Trail out of The City Of Florence and so I proceeded south on F2, So you know, You have access to the Visitors Center which is located along the trail on your way out of Florence, In case you need information about the area. Also, Another North-South Trail, Florence F15 intersects State Line Trail (F2) east of the city of Florence, but I would recommend taking F2 southbound to Dunbar and then coming back North on F15 to Florence. It just seemed to be an amazing ride both ways, but because F15 is so epic, I want you to save that for last, kind of like the grand finally and that I how I will structure this article. You can see this on the map I provided at the end of this article.
Along The Trails…

The trails here are very desolate and there is little other ohv traffic which makes you feel as though you are way off grid. There are really no other communities heading south, which is so awesome.
There is so much to see along the trails, you could spend weeks exploring. I stopped at several parks and waterfalls, literally spent the most of the day hiking, more than I have since my Clark or Marinette County Trail reviews!
Below, you can see the first “attraction” along the trails, which is Keyes Peak Overlook, which overlooks the Keyes Lake area. There is an amazing looking Disc Golf Course here, and I wish I would have brought my disc golf equipment! Really a cool stop along the trails!

Tubing on the Popple River…
South of Florence you come across an access point to the Popple River, in the parking lot, there is a tubing company offering tube rentals for floating down the Popple river, This would be a great alternative thing to do along these trails. So cool!

Pine River Hydroelectric Dam…
This is another interesting stop along the trails of Florence County. The Pine Hydroelectric Dam is one of 13 Hydroelectric Dams that WE Energies operates and was constructed in 1922 and provides a maximum of 3600 Kilowatts.
You are able to walk to the dam and Breakwater Falls which is quite a walk, maybe a half hour walk over mildly difficult terrain. You are treated great views of the dam, river and falls if you do go check it out. Really neat!

Lasalle Falls…

Next stop in Florence County was LaSalle Falls, this one is a hike, roughly and hour of walking, one way and it would have been better if there were some better easy access view points, but this one is not that great, Maybe if I had more time here, I could have found some better access points but as of now, I would have to say skip this one. I ended up with a large amount of tick friends and the views were not the best of the falls…

Trail Infrastructure / ATV park…
The trail infrastructure of Florence County is top notch. I was amazed at how well the Blue Ox Trail Club maintains their trail system.
These first photos and videos show a bridge crossing over the Popple River south of Florence and is very photogenic.
Also south of Florence, The county operates a ATV park, which is an intensive use area, allowing you to open up a little bit and have some real off-road fun. These types of riding areas are becoming harder and harder to find and this one is very nice, offering steep terrain and a track to test your nerves. Fun stuff.
Back to the trails…

Very Photogenic Trails… If that’s a word that can be applied to an offroad trail, lol, I am such a trail geek, sorry.

As you can see, there is much to see along these trails and beautiful trails to explore here in Florence County. I will return for additional articles in the future, there is so much here!
Favorite Trail… Ending this journey on a high note…
Finally, let’s talk about my favorite trail in the state of Wisconsin, It’s here in Florence County, Florence F15 which is a North-South Trail from the Town of Dunbar to just east of the City of Florence. Florence Trail F15 is one of my favorite trails in the State of Wisconsin for it’s hills and curves and being in excellent condition.
My suggestion would be to travel northbound on F15 from Dunbar back to Florence because it is just off the charts fun, this trail really checks all the boxes at what i’m looking for in a trail, Just so much fun!

Conclusion…

This trip was an eye-opener, Florence County really is a top destination for off-roaders from the great trails in the county to the interesting things to see along the trails to the freindly communities along the way.
The Trails really are some of the best I have encountered and not that busy to boot! Just a fun trip!
Florence County Trails and especially the City of Florence is in a perfect location among Northern Wisconsin communities for ohv exploration, You can literally travel in any direction and find incredible trails and destinations along the trails. You can head north into Michigan and explore there as well!
