The Alamogordo / White Sands KOA offers the usual great stay that the brand is known for, but in an incredible setting in the community of Alamogordo, near the base of the Sacramento Mountains with some great views! Really, the entire area offers views of the mountains, as it sits in the Tularosa Basin of the Chihuahuan Desert. Basically, it’s a large bowl with the Sacramento mountains to the east of town and further west, in the distance are the Otero Mountains. I crossed both of the mountain ranges, Sacramento Mountains coming to Alamogordo and the Otero Mountains going to El Paso, Texas, which was my final destination. Both of the mountain ranges are substantial and are to be taken seriously as far as driving is concerned.
The Campground is in great shape overall, very tight for maneuvering in some areas of the Campground and incredible access to the White Sands National Park just around 20 miles from the Camp.

The Campground…
I loved the Cactuses around the property, they are huge and beautiful! Very Welcoming!

The campground is amazing and the staff is friendly and helpful. As this was my first time in the area, I had a lot of questions and they were happy to talk with me a while, much appreciated. All the facilities are top-notch, no complaints.
I visited in December and was pleasantly surprised by the weather, 60s and 70s during the day in the valley, cannot beat that coming from Wisconsin. While in the mountains, it was in the 30s and 40s with snow. Quite a range, I can see the mountains being a place of refuge from the heat of summer and they are only about a half hour.
I will mention this campground is located within the city limits of Alamogordo, so expect the usual mid-sized city noise, from ambient noise to police sirens to military flyovers.

The Community of Alamogordo is amazing and there is so much to do within 1 hour of the KOA Campground you could spend weeks here!
