Why I did, what I did… (Purchasing My RV Series)

In this article, I will go over what I was looking for in an rv and how I chose this, the Forest River Cherokee Wolfpack 325 – Pack 13 as my new rv.

My Though Process…

Since this is my first “real” rv purchase, many of you may remember I had a much small tear-drop style camper before. I wanted to write about how and why I chose this rv.

I have had a very small tear-drop style camper for many years and enjoyed that type of camping very much, as it allowed me to explore areas, I will have trouble getting to with this new rig, due to the length and height, more on that in other articles in this series “Choosing My New RV”.

My reasoning behind getting a bigger rv was simple, I’m getting older and it’s difficult to not have the comforts of home now, also the tent, which is where I spent most of my time camping, was 12ft in the air. I was worried, being in these remote areas, that I could fall and get hurt. How would anyone find me if something happened? I never had a stove or bathrooms or a shower as I do now. In the past, I made this set up work, I would find showers and restrooms along the way, but now it’s getting more difficult and as I grow older, I noticed I need things simpler. Life is hard enough without all the extra running around, and that’s what I was doing with the small camper. I couldn’t make meals and I didn’t have much storage for clothes or food, so I would eat out a lot and that gets very expensive.

So, I decided to upgrade to something bigger and the only way I could see this working is with a fifth wheel. I know you can purchase the bed racks and then use a bumper pull camper but I have had large bumper pull enclosed trailers in the past and the way those things are pushed around by the winds and passing semi-trucks, it’s makes for a white-knuckle driving experience, I needed something more stable, the fifth wheel offered the best option, with plenty of space and room for the utv in an enclosed garage of it’s own.

Purchasing…

With those details, I found what I was looking for in this rig. To actually find one on a lot was a whole different undertaking, and it took two years of browsing the internet to find one somewhat decently close to my home. These rvs get purchased quick, in fact, when I was in process of signing papers for the rig, someone called the rv dealership and wanted to purchase it.

The process of purchasing the camper was mixed, I ended up finding the camper roughly an hour and half away from my home but with my real job and maintaining this blog, it was a chore to purchase it. Back and fourth, to look at it, then paperwork and then actually picking the camper up. Doesn’t sound like much, but when I have no free-time, it becomes an issue. Than there was the issues, the generator didn’t work and the camper needed to be re-sealed, so I had to take it back for that. Overall, the process of purchasing was “ok” but I have learned a lot from this first process and will know better for next time. I will share this in a future article in this series.
