I stayed in Shell Lake, Wisconsin (Washburn County) and fell in love with the community. It’s an epic destination for ohvers and campers alike. I wanted to put together this article as fun way to show off what the community has to offer in regards to campers. The reason I can do this for this community, is because both of the two campgrounds here are off the charts for different reasons & I will showcase these reasons in this article…
I will run down both locations within the community of Shell Lake and show you why these campgrounds are amazing…
Shell Lake Municipal Campground…

Wow, just look at the campground. The Shell Lake Municipal Campground is not available for OHVers but offers an incredible camping experience right along Shell Lake and in the heart of Shell Lake, right where all the action is.
This campground offers 47 sites right in Downtown Shell Lake on the 2500+ acre Seepage Lake (Largest in WI) The Campground offers full hookups at most of the sites and I would consider this to be more of an RV park experience than a campground.
There are 12 Pull-Thru site here as well, for the big-rigs.
There are full amenities onsite, in the form of restrooms and showers, RV Dump Station and more.
Public Swimming Area…
Additionally, there is a public swim beach, public boat launch, a fish cleaning station and access to Downtown directly across the main street.
So, If you’re a camper that wants a great waterfront view and all the amenities, This campground is for you, truly amazing for such a small community!

Shell Lake ATV Campground…
Direct access from the trails…
The Shell Lake ATV Campground, which is located just down the road from the Shell Lake Municipal Campground is equally amazing and gives off a different camping vibe. This vibe, is one of relaxation, A very different experience from the hustle and bustle of the Municipal Campground in Downtown.
ATV wash bay…
This campground is situated in the woods on the north end of Shell Lake, though your not able to see the lake from the campground. What you give up (the view) is easily replaced with the incredibly peaceful campground with all the amenities from showers and restrooms to an OHV wash station and direct access to the Washburn County Trails.

My Pick…
Personally, I would have to pick the ATV Campground, even if I wasn’t atving in the area. The ATV Campground in Shell Lake Is Spectacular and is my pick in this edition of Clash Of The Campsites…
