Main entrance of Shell Lake ATV Campground.
Shell Lake ATV Campground is conveniently located just a few miles off of US Hwy 53, which is a 70MPH divided highway running through Northwest Wisconsin. I mention this because many areas I go to, do not offer such access. I greatly appreciated this aspect.
I have never stayed in or driven on Washburn County Trails before and I am sad that it has taken me this long to get to this part of the state. I have heard good things in the past and have finally gotten the chance to check out these trails and campgrounds.
Shell Lake Campground was my home base for the weekend, I eneded up with campsite number 1, right near the entrance. It’s a pull-thru site, nice and level and offers full hook-ups, as do most of the campsites at this campground.

Looking towards the rear of campground.
What an absolute gem of a campground this is!
The campground layout is fantastic offering large sites and wooded campsite boundaries for privacy. I love these campsites!
Each campsite is orientated in a different way, really looks appealing when comparing the commercial campgrounds or even the main campground in Shell Lake by the lake. Personally, this campground would be my first choice, now that I’ve seen both!

Did I mention I love this layout.
The campground offers several restrooms and a shower house for those that need it. All facilities were clean and nice to use.

ATV Wash Bay…

The campground offers a wash bay on-site, wonderful to have! It’s free to use at the time of this writing.
Campsite #1…

Look at that view outside the windows! [/caption]
Campsite #1 is located at the entrance of the campground and as I mentioned, is one of only a hand-full pull-thru style sites available.
This site was perfect in many ways, It allowed easy set-up and convenient access in and out for my pickup, when I needed to go to the store.

Campsite offers picnic table and fire ring, Fire ring is far enough away from camper to be safe. This is becoming big issue, at many campgrounds, the fire ring is way too close.
Trail Access…

Shell Lake ATV Campground offers direct access to the Washburn County Trail System via corridor 39 which runs north and south through Washburn County!
Corridor 39, also known regionally as the Wild Rivers Trail meanders it’s way through Shell Lake, I went north to Minong, Wisconsin and enjoyed many stops along the way especially in Spooner, Wisconsin, which is a larger community within Washburn County.
